Программа курса «How to prepare students for EGE»

DAY 1

1

Preparing students for the Listening section, Part 1

This session will open with a plenary on the structure of the exam: participants will elaborate concrete recommendations for their learners based on typical mistakes in the exam.
It will further analyse the methodology behind receptive skills development with a particular focus on the Listening subskills assessed by EGE.
Participants will obtain comprehensive information on practical tips, traps, typical mistakes and exam-taking strategies with regards to Part 1 and 2.

Preparing students for the Listening section, Part 2 and 3; Preparing students for the Reading section: Part 1.

This session with continue exploring the Listening paper, with a particular focus on part 2 and 3, and go on to reading subskills which will be assessed in Reading Part 1.  In the second part of the session participants will practise the tips learnt and look at other practical ideas on how to develop ‘exam-taking’ strategies for the Reading section of EGE, as well as analyseexam tasks and students’ typical mistakes.

Preparing students for the Reading section: Part 2 and 3. Useful resources and exam preparation recommendations.

This session will look at Part 2 and 3 of the reading section as well as recommendations on useful resources and other crucial exam preparation tips. 

DAY 2

EGE language: Preparing students for the Grammar and Vocabulary section

This session will focus on exam-taking strategies for the Grammar and Vocabulary section, and suggest some effective activities to practice grammar and vocabulary for this challenging paper, as well as provide some recommendations for materials and an exam preparation course.

Preparing students for the Speaking section: Part 1

This session looks at the modern concept of the Speaking section, with a focus on Task 1.
Participants will assess students’ recordings, analyse their typical mistakes and discuss some effective communicative activities which will enhance their students’ speaking skills with reference to EGE.

Preparing students for the Speaking section: Parts 2 and 3

In this session participants will learn about Tasks 2 criteria for assessment and its challenges. 
They will also look at Task 3, analysestudents’ typical mistakes and discuss some effective communicative activities, which will enhance their students’ speaking skills with reference to EGE.

DAY 3

Preparing students for the Speaking section: Part 4 and exam practice.

In this session participants will explore the Task 4 peculiarities, analysestudents’ typical mistakes and discuss some very useful exam-related speaking activities.
At the end of the session, participants will try exam activities with their peers.

How to prepare students for the Writing section.
Part 1: approaches to teaching writing and preparing for an Email

This session will look at the methodology behind writing skills development and its application to preparing students for the Writing section of EGE, specifically focusing on the requirements of the Email part.

How to prepare students for the Writing section.
Part 2: Preparing to write an Email

During this session, trainees will receive extensive practice on assessing students’ Emails and analyzing student’s typical mistakes as well as get an insight into some effective training ideas.

DAY 4

Writing an email sessions follow-up plenary.
Preparing students for the Writing section: Task 39, Part 1

At the beginning of the session participants will receive an assignment to assess other participants’ emails.

During this highly interactive session participants will discover some effective ways of developing learners’ understanding of the task structure.

Preparing students for the Writing section: Task 39, Part  2

In this session participants will learn about Task 39 criteria for assessment and its challenges. 
During this highly interactive session participants will discover some effective techniques and communicative activities to help approach the five paragraphs of the task.

Preparing students for the Writing section: Task 39, Part 3

Useful resources and exam preparation recommendations.

During this session participants will receive extensive practice in assessing students’ writing using EGE criteria which will enhance their understanding of the structure and the language needed for their students to cope with this challenging task.
